ChaptersLuvut

Viisi minuuttia — koko työnkulku

  1. Avaa käsikirjoitus PDF:nä (⌘O). Merkinnät tallentuvat PDF:n viereen omaan tiedostoonsa, PDF:ään ei kosketa.
  2. Merkitse isku: paina CUE-kuvaketta ja maalaa sanat, joiden kohdalla isku lähtee. Laatikko lukittuu kokonaisiin sanoihin, selite kirjoitetaan laatikon alle.
  3. Aja esitys: valmiusnäyttö kertoo seuraavan iskun, välilyönti tai Return = GO, askelpalautin = takaisin.
  4. Anna esitysjärjestelmän kääntää sivut: Settings › OSC IN (esim.

1. Käsikirjoituksen avaaminen

File › Open Script (⌘O) tai aloitusnäkymän Open script. Mikä tahansa PDF, jossa on tekstikerros, kelpaa: Wordista, Pagesista tai Final Draftista viety tai OCR-käsitelty skannaus. Sivu rajataan automaattisesti tekstialueeseen, ja Settings › General › Exclude page numbers from crop pudottaa sivunumerot pois rajauksesta.

2. Iskujen merkitseminen

CUE-kuvake (⌘E) avaa merkkaustilan. Maalaa sanat tai klikkaa yksittäistä sanaa: klikkaus tekee iskun juuri sille sanalle, ja laatikko lukittuu kokonaisiin sanoihin. Selite kirjoitetaan suoraan laatikon alle. Sivu avaa selitteelle raon rivien väliin, joten mikään ei peitä tekstiä. Pitkä selite rivittyy itsestään sanarajalla, kun sivun oikea reuna tulee vastaan; oman rivinvaihdon saa ⇧+Enterillä. Selitteen koon säädät liukusäätimellä (Settings › General › Cue label size, 10–32 px; oletus 14 px) ja muutos näkyy heti sivulla; asetettu koko on suurin koko; Reset palauttaa oletuksen.

Listan ensimmäinen tyyppi on uuden iskun oletus.

⌘-Enter jakaa rivin kahdelle riville; tyhjäksi pyyhitty rivi poistuu.

5. Esityksen ajo

Vasemman reunan valmiusnäyttö kertoo, mikä isku lähtee seuraavaksi. Välilyönti tai Return = GO (ei Cue Mode -tilassa, jotta merkitseminen ei laukaise iskua vahingossa), askelpalautin = edellinen, nuolet ylös/alas siirtävät valmiuden, nuolet vasen/oikea kääntävät sivua. RESET RUN -nappi (tai Show › Reset Standby, ⇧⌘R) palauttaa esityksen alkuun; nappi vaatii vahvistukseksi toisen painalluksen. Ajo alkaa aina alusta (valmius ensimmäisessä iskussa), jotta uusi esitys alkaa puhtaalta; merkinnät säilyvät. Jos SCRIPTINDX sulkeutui tai kaatui kesken esityksen, kun avaat saman käsikirjoituksen uudelleen lukualueen yläreunaan tulee yksi rivi: Resume the show from cue N? — Resume palauttaa ajetut iskut ja valmiuden siihen mihin jäit, Start over unohtaa ajokohdan.

Sivupalkin saa kokonaan piiloon (sivupalkkikuvake rattaan vieressä tai View › Show Sidebar ⌃⌘S), jolloin ajossa näkyy pelkkä käsikirjoitussivu; vasemman yläkulman pieni nappi tuo palkin takaisin.

Haku ilman sivupalkkia. ⌘F (tai / tai ⌘G) avaa haun. Kun sivupalkki on piilossa, esimerkiksi Maximize Textissä kapeassa ikkunassa, hakukenttä avautuu omalle kaistalleen sivun ylle eikä peitä tekstiä. Enter siirtää seuraavaan osumaan, Shift+Enter edelliseen ja Esc sulkee haun. Sivunumeron kirjoittaminen hyppää sivulle (myös Go to Page…, ⌘G).

6. Ohjaus esitysjärjestelmästä

SCRIPTINDX kuuntelee OSC:tä (Settings › Control › OSC IN, portti 53100), MIDI-nuotteja ja MSC-komentoja valopöydältä. Näin ajokirja seuraa esitystä: GO QLabista siirtää valmiuden ja kääntää sivun. Sovellus ei koskaan lähetä komentoja, joten esitys ajetaan edelleen QLabista. Oletuksena OSC hyväksytään vain tältä koneelta; toiselta koneelta ohjaava pöytä vaatii asetuksen Accept OSC only from this Mac pois päältä.

Komennot: /go, /back, /standby <numero>, /cue <numero>, /page <sivu>, /page/next, /page/prev, /reset (ajo alkuun), /cue/<numero>/go (aja nimetty isku), /dim 1|0. Kaikki toimivat myös /scriptindx-etuliitteellä (esim. /scriptindx/go). Settings-ikkunan Control monitor näyttää saapuvat viestit.

“Kohtaus 3: Masa tulee”).

8. Kokeilu ja lisenssi

Sovellus toimii 30 päivää täysin ilman rajoituksia. Lisenssiavain syötetään kohtaan Settings › License (oma välilehti), ja Deactivate this Mac vapauttaa paikan toiselle koneelle. Testaajan avain (alkaa RMK-TRIAL) jatkaa kokeilua avaimen päivämäärään asti ilman verkkoa. Hinta on 49 € kertamaksuna kolmelle Macille.

Five minutes — the whole workflow

  1. Open the script as a PDF (⌘O). Marks are saved beside the PDF in their own file; the PDF is never touched.
  2. Mark a cue: press the CUE icon and drag over the words the cue fires on. The box snaps to whole words; the label is typed right under it.
  3. Run the show: the standby display shows the next cue, Space or Return is GO, Backspace goes back.
  4. Let the show system turn the pages: Settings › OSC IN (QLab, for example) or MIDI/MSC from the lighting desk. The app only listens; it never sends commands.

1. Opening a script

File › Open Script (⌘O) or Open script on the start screen. Any PDF with a text layer works: exported from Word, Pages or Final Draft, or a scan with OCR. The page is cropped to its text area automatically, and Settings › General › Exclude page numbers from crop keeps page numbers out of the crop.

Recent scripts are in File › Open Recent and on the start screen. Save (⌘S) writes the marks to disk immediately and rotates a backup; Save Script As (⇧⌘S) saves the PDF and the marks together under a new name and continues from the copy.

2. Marking cues

The CUE icon (⌘E) enters marking mode. Drag over words or click a single word: a click makes the cue on exactly that word, and the box snaps to whole words. The label is typed directly under the box. The page opens a gap between the lines for the label, so nothing covers the text. A long label wraps by itself at a word boundary when it reaches the page edge; ⇧+Enter adds a line break of your own. Set the label size with the slider in Settings › General › Cue label size (10–32 px, default 14 px); the change shows on the page at once, and the size you set is the largest size; Reset restores the default. All labels on a page start at the same left edge, with a small leader line to the cue. On a busy page a long label shortens to one line (…) and shows in full when the cue is selected or hovered (Settings › Compact labels on busy pages). On a busy page it shrinks smoothly (to about 10 px with 24 or more cues on the page) so the page doesn't stretch too far — Shrink labels on busy pages switches this off.

A click selects a cue, a double-click opens its settings (number, type, colour, note). Backspace deletes the selected cue, and the side handles stretch the box, snapping to words as well. Cues are numbered in reading order; a cue inserted in between gets a decimal (2 → 2.5 → 3), and the 1·2·3 button in the list renumbers them as whole numbers. Every marking action can be undone with ⌘Z. The Edit menu also has Duplicate Cue (⌘D) and Renumber Cues. A click between words or lines marks the nearest word.

Several cues at once: select them in the list with Shift- or ⌘-click (on the page, ⌘- or Shift-click adds to the selection) and open the right-click menu. Color and Type change the colour or type of every selected cue at once, and one ⌘Z undoes the whole change.

Settings › General › Cue marking › Mark snaps to: Whole words (default) or Letters for a character-exact edge.

Cue types: a cue type is a name and a colour, and the list is yours. The defaults are CUE, SFX, LFX, VFX and INFO; rename, recolour, remove or add types under Settings › General › Cue types (FLY, STG, MIC, CALL and FX are ready as presets). The first type in the list is the default for new cues. A cue takes its type's colour unless you give it one of its own in its settings. A type can be any operator action, or just a note to watch for.

3. Strike and hide

Cuts from rehearsal go straight onto the page. Strike (the crossed T) draws a line through the words and dims them; Hide (the eye) blanks them completely. Both are made by dragging; a multi-line selection is marked line by line, only on the selected words. A click selects a mark, Backspace removes it, a double-click removes it directly.

Other tools. The tool row in the sidebar also has MARK (drag a highlight onto the page), REGION (drag a frame around several lines), FLAG (tap the page to drop a free flag), MEMO (drag a note onto the page) and NOTES (show or hide the notes, M), CROP (drag the page edges; a double-tap restores the automatic crop) and ⇄ PAIR (shifts the spread pairing by one page).

4. Your own action lines (TEXT)

Rehearsals add business that isn't in the printed script: MARIANNE WALKS ON. The TEXT tool (lines and a plus) adds a line of your own: click the line it should go under, type, press Enter. The line opens its own space between the lines the same way labels do, so it never covers the script, and it reads as an italic part of the page. ⌘-Enter splits it over two lines; a line wiped empty is removed.

An added line is a cue like any printed word: in Cue mode a click on the line makes the whole line a cue, the label is written under it as for any other cue, and the cue takes its place in the list by its position on the page. Removing the line removes its cue too (⌘Z brings both back). Export Marked Script prints added lines in italics as part of the script.

While typing a label, Tab moves to the next cue's label and ⇧Tab to the previous one; standby doesn't move. You can paint the next word straight from a label – the text is saved.

5. Running the show

The standby display on the left shows which cue fires next. Space or Return is GO (not in Cue Mode, so marking never fires a cue by accident), Backspace steps back, the up and down arrows move the standby, the left and right arrows turn pages. The RESET RUN button (or Show › Reset Standby, ⇧⌘R) returns to the top; the button needs a second press to confirm. A run always starts from the top (standby on the first cue) so a new show begins clean; your marks are kept. If SCRIPTINDX quit or crashed mid-show, opening the same script again shows one line at the top of the reading area: Resume the show from cue N? — Resume restores the fired cues and the standby where you left off, Start over forgets the run point. The offer never acts by itself: the first GO (key, OSC, MIDI or MSC) only closes the line and the run starts from cue 1, and Back and standby moves also save the run point.

Dim Screen (⇧⌘D) darkens the screen for the house. One-page mode (the pages icon or ⌘1) fits a narrow window beside QLab; ⌘2 restores the spread. The whole sidebar can be hidden (the sidebar icon next to the gear, or View › Show Sidebar ⌃⌘S) so only the script page shows while you run; the small button in the top-left corner brings it back. The Booth, Studio and Daylight themes are under the tool row or in the View menu.

Maximize Text. Beside QLab the script window is often narrow, and a page that is not as tall as the longest page of the script leaves empty space around its text. View › Maximize Text (⌥⌘0, or the button in the toolbar) shows every page at the largest size at which all of its text still fits the window, with no zooming and no scrolling. Each page is fitted on its own, so a short page is shown larger than a full one and the size can change when you turn the page. The margins shrink to a couple of pixels, the page is centred, and empty rows with nothing but the printed page number are hidden. Hidden areas are only ever empty: nothing on the page, no cue, flag, note or caption is cut off.

Maximize Text changes only how the page is shown. Cues, flags, notes and the saved file are untouched, Export Marked Script still contains the whole page, and switching the mode off brings back the normal layout. In this mode the window can be made narrower than usual (down to 360 px); below 600 px the sidebar hides itself, and View › Show Sidebar widens the window instead of covering the page. The mode pauses while the Crop handles are open.

With Maximize Text on, the window's title bar disappears too and its height goes to the page. Rest the pointer on the very top edge of the window for a moment and the close, minimise and zoom buttons fade in just below it; they stay while the pointer is over them. Moving the pointer restarts the wait, so passing through the top edge never shows them. Drag the thin strip along the top edge to move the window, and double-click it to zoom or minimise (it follows the system setting for title bars). Minimise (⌘M), Close Window (⇧⌘W) and Enter Full Screen (⌃⌘F) work as usual. Switch Maximize Text off and the title bar comes back exactly as it was. In full screen nothing changes: macOS already hides the title bar.

Search without the sidebar. ⌘F (or / or ⌘G) opens search. When the sidebar is hidden, for example in Maximize Text in a narrow window, the search field opens in its own strip above the page and never covers the text. Enter goes to the next hit, Shift+Enter to the previous one, and Esc closes the search. Typing a page number jumps to that page (also Go to Page…, ⌘G). Search also finds cues by their label text and highlights them in the cue list.

6. Control from the show system

SCRIPTINDX listens to OSC (Settings › Control › OSC IN, port 53100), MIDI notes and MSC from the lighting desk, so the cue book follows the show: a GO from QLab advances the standby and turns the page. The app never sends commands, so the show still runs from QLab. By default OSC is accepted only from this Mac; a desk on another machine needs Accept OSC only from this Mac switched off.

Commands: /go, /back, /standby <number>, /cue <number>, /page <page>, /page/next, /page/prev, /reset (run back to the top), /cue/<number>/go (fire a named cue), /dim 1|0. Every command also works with a /scriptindx prefix (for example /scriptindx/go). The Control monitor in the Settings window shows incoming messages.

7. Export and a second screen

File › Export Marked Script (⇧⌘E) writes a PDF that looks exactly like the screen, gaps and labels included, as the printed backup. View › Confidence Monitor (⇧⌘M) opens the operator's console on a second display: a big standby number and the next cues. In the Export Cue List preview table you can edit labels, reorder rows (within a scene) and remove rows of the exported list only – your cues are not touched. File › Import Cue List… reads a CSV (page; marked word; label; type; colour): the preview shows how many rows were found and how many were not, only found rows are created, and one ⌘Z undoes the whole import. Drag a scene tag to another line to move the scene. In Cue Mode the sidebar says MARKING and the window gets a red border, in run mode it says RUN; Reset Run needs two clicks, and editing a label or text shows EDITING.

Scenes and the cue list

The SCENE tool marks where a scene begins: click a line and name the scene (for example “Scene 3: Masa enters”). A scene is not a sound cue and never affects the run, GO, the standby cue or the numbering. The cue list is grouped by scene: from a heading you can jump to the scene, rename it by double-clicking, or delete it. Cues before the first scene sit in a “No scene” group.

File › Export Cue List… exports the cue list as a PDF and a CSV for the director or for checking. In the dialog you choose page numbers, scene headings, type and colour, and cue and page notes (notes are off by default). The script text is never exported. The CSV delimiter is a semicolon by default, which opens in columns in a Finnish-locale Excel; you can choose a comma in the dialog.

A cue's settings open with a double-click (or Edit › Cue Settings…, ⌘I), on the label with its text selected. A single click only selects the cue, so a cue made by accident can be deleted straight away with ⌫ or undone with ⌘Z while the cursor is still in its empty label.

8. Trial and licence

The app runs for 30 days with no limits. A licence key goes under Settings › License, and Deactivate this Mac frees the seat for another machine. A tester key (starts with RMK-TRIAL) extends the trial until the key's date, no network needed. The price is 49 € one-time for three Macs.
